    rof. Ernst Fuchs (1930 - 2015)

Ernst Fuchs, who died in November 2015, always wanted to be a universal artist - and he consistently put this claim into practice throughout his life. First as a painter and draftsman, when he was admitted to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts at the age of barely 15 and soon after founded the legendary "Viennese School of Fantastic Realism" together with artists such as Arik Brauer and Rudolf Hausner.

Then soon as a sculptural designer; since the late 1960s Fuchs created sculptures that stand almost unique in the art world. But in the 85 years of his life, Ernst Fuchs also demonstrated his creative imagination in other areas: as a stage designer, as a designer, as an author and as a musician he worked and also - in this respect similar to his friend Friedensreich Hundertwasser - made fundamental considerations about architecture that found great resonance. In all this, the artist's works are unmistakable. They draw from biblical, mythological and astrological sources and find a world of motifs that, despite all echoes of Mannerism, Art Nouveau and Surrealism, is ultimately his very own.
