    Product description

    Agnes Boulloche (1951)

Agnès Boulloche is currently one of the most important surrealist artists in France. The fantastic worlds of her oil paintings, painted on wood in the most elaborate old-master glazing technique, have inspired the international public since 1975, when the daughter of a resistance fighter and later education minister, who grew up in Morocco, opened her first exhibition after studying at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

The artist's motifs spring from her own unbridled imagination. Dreams often provide the decisive impetus. At the same time, however, they are part of a centuries-old tradition of the fantastic, as expressed, for example, in the creatures of Hieronymus Bosch or the French tradition of the "bestiaries" of the 12th and 13th centuries - animals that, lavishly costumed, parody human, all-too-human behavior, or hybrid creatures between animal and human, which expand the world of "reality" by the dimension of the possible and the miraculous.
