Kurtfritz Handel (1941 - 2016)

Born as a Romanian-German in Râmnicu Vâcea, Handel had the opportunity to engage in sculpture as a high school student: He attended an art high school in Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg), Transylvania. After studying sculpture and art history at the State Academy of Arts in Cluj-Napoca and graduating as a master student of Artur Vetros, he worked as an art teacher and freelance artist in Sibiu. In 1985 he moved to the Federal Republic of Germany. Here he worked as a principal and lecturer at the Youth Art School in Nürtingen. His artistic work includes landscape and animal sculptures, portraits, figurative sculptures and drawings. What is captivating about his works is an impressive understanding of form, which even with extensive abstraction is still characterized by deep humor.
