Kurt Grabert's artistic training began at a young age (he attended the Höhere Fachschule für das graphische Gewerbe), but was interrupted for more than six years by war and imprisonment. It was only after the war that he was finally able to begin his studies in sculpture at the Stuttgart Academy.
The artist used his double talent as a graphic artist and sculptor throughout his life; for many years he worked as a graphic designer for industrial companies and for newspapers, but at the same time he always created sculptural works in his studio in Hördingen near Überlingen, and since 1975 then in Göppingen.
In the two decades before his death, Grabert still created important graphic works (for example, a graphic cycle about Georg Elser and his assassination attempt on Hitler, which continued to grow over the years), but concentrated primarily on sculpture, whereby bronze proved to be the most suitable material for him. Since then, numerous works have adorned public spaces; Grabert's sculptures can be found, for example, in Urach, Metzingen, Zweibrücken, Großgerau and can be seen at and in the town church of Göppingen. His sculpture for the forecourt of the town hall in Ehingen on the Danube shows that Grabert, who was considered by his friends to be extremely sensitive and life-affirming, was also blessed with a good dose of humor. It takes any local political planning power for a ride, because it shows a fool with a jingling cap and bears the title "The fool looks into the future".
