    Rinaldo Bigi (1942)

Rinaldo Bigi was born in Pietrasanta, near the famous marble quarries of Carrara. One of the materials he would later work on was thus at his feet as an infant. Bigi graduated from the prestigious Carrara College of Fine Arts in 1964 and - while his own work was taking shape - taught at art colleges in Carrara and Lucca. In 1983, in his early forties, he was appointed to the chair of sculpture techniques at his home academy.

The artistic success began earlier. As early as the 1960s he attracted attention in Italy, and in 1970 he had his first solo exhibition - in New York, which immediately brought his name to the attention of international critics. Numerous exhibitions followed, both in Italy and abroad. Bigi is equally established as a painter and as a sculptor. His sculptural works are praised above all for the liveliness of his figures. Here he shows himself to be completely committed to the tradition of the "ab-image", even if he - also a traditionalist in this - often realizes variations on themes from classical mythology.
