It is not without reason that the joy of life is often associated in linguistic usage with the term "unbridled": it should be free, not restrained or limited by anything, even unbridled beyond all conventions.

    Friedhelm Zilly (1944)

An apprenticeship as a surveying technician, studies at the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, many years of work as a surveying engineer - these biographical data by no means suggest the curriculum vitae of a successful sculptor. But there was also the fascination for philosophy, literature and fine arts in his early years. Friedhelm Zilly already drew, painted and modeled during his school and study years. In 1980 he set up his studio near Radolfzell. Today, a good 30 of his bronze sculptures and fountain installations are present in public spaces, primarily in southern Germany, but also in France, Austria and Ireland. His works include a Hermann Hesse sculpture in Gaienhofen, the poet's longtime place of residence, and "Knulp," a famous novel character from Hesse's work in Calw, Hesse's birthplace.
