Although she has left, her stature leaves behind a hollow form that has been turned inside out, as it were, erroneously.

    Guido Messer (1941)

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1941, Messer studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart after completing an apprenticeship as a goldsmith in Pforzheim and attending the school of art and crafts there, and at the same time trained as an art caster. Already at the end of the 1960s he attracted attention with his partly strongly satirical sculptures. He has been working as a freelance sculptor since 1982 and has made a name for himself over the last four decades as a profound and humorous critic of the times.

Messer's works are often politically grounded, but in their sculptural idea they go far beyond mere caricature. This is already evident in the two hollow-body works from recent years offered here in our online store: what serves him in "Schwätzer" as an artistic means of expression to expose the emptiness of his words, proves in "Schreiten" to be an expression of a painfully absent presence.
