In the biblical book of Daniel, the beauty of the bathing Susanna wakes the desires of two judges. Being a pious woman, she rejects them and the two men falsely accuse her of adultery. King David's divine inspiration, however, brings truth to the light. The bathing Susanna has always been a popular motif for artists to celebrate female beauty - also for Zilly, who represents her as a strong confident figure.
