Its name points to its origin: the Mandarin duck comes from faraway China, where it is a symbol of marital fidelity. It has become rare in its native habitat. Fortunately, there is an appreciable number in Europe, even surpassing that in Asia – in zoos and parks, as well as in the wild. The drake in particular is considered a real pet owing to its colourful plumage.
