    Product description

The path leading again and again to figurative representation, whether via drawing or sculpture, is subject to the longing for aesthetic, body-related statement. In the background is a concrete mental preliminary work, which deals with arcs of tension and apparent weightlessness.

    Gudrun Cornford (1944)

Before Gudrun Cornford came to sculptural work, she worked for many years as a graphic designer. As a student of Armin Hofmann and Donald Brun, she had studied graphic design with a focus on free drawing in Basel and, after a brief period in an advertising agency in London, set up her own business as a freelance artist and illustrator. Her first sculpture works were created in 1987, and she has since put her self-taught efforts on a solid footing by participating in several seminars for "plastic design" at the Technical University of Darmstadt.

Teaching activities soon followed. In 1996 she received a teaching assignment for nude drawing at the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences in the area of design/architecture, in 1998 she taught plastic design there, and in the years 2000-2004 she alternated between basic drawing and experimental drawing.

Cornford's work has been shown in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Since the early nineties, she has also increasingly presented her sculptural work to the public, with a diverse body of work now in alabaster, marble, and bronze. Cornford also works for public spaces and creates sacred sculptures; in 2003, for example, a large-scale Christ figure from her hand was installed in the parish hall of the Protestant church community of Georgenhausen.
