    Milan Drews (1943)

Milan Drews received his artistic training as a painter and sculptor from 1957 to 1965 in Kiel, Hamburg, Berlin and in London; he was a master student at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and for a time (1965 - 1966) an assistant to the great Henry Moore. For almost three decades he worked as a teacher of bdquo;Free Design" and "Industrial Design" at the HBK Braunschweig; guest professorships also took him to New York and to Bandung in Indonesia. In all these years and until today, he has created numerous free works. Today Drews is represented in numerous collections at home and abroad. In addition, there are exhibitions (in Germany, USA, Italy, Indonesia, Russia, Great Britain) and last but not least works for public space.

However, Drews is not only a visual artist. He is also a trained art historian and Germanist (and worked for some time as a cultural correspondent for "Deutsche Welle" and "Deutschlandfunk"), which is certainly relevant to his sculpture "Lesende". It was created as a personal reaction to the fire of the Duchess Anna Amalia Library in Weimar in 2004 and as an attempt to financially support its reconstruction.
