The famous woodcut of the Great Gulf with Mount Fuji in the background was the first in the famous series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji from the late Edo period. The huge wave threatened to inundate two ships off the coast of the prefecture of Kanagawa (directly south of Tokyo). Years later it was described as 'Punkt und Linie zu Flafche'.
