  • Marie-Madeleine Gautier Bronze Statue: Adagio

    Back to overview

    € 7.350,00 Incl. tax

As a tempo designation in music, adagio prescribes a calm, slowly flowing melodic line. Gautier's character seems to listen to such music - and in turn to rest completely within himself.

    Marie-Madeleine Gautier (1956)

The artistic theme of the internationally renowned French artist Marie-Madeleine Gautier, who trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, has been a classic one for sculpture since time immemorial: it is the human being. In her case, more precisely, it is the woman, whom she has been sculpting for decades in ever new variations and exploring as an anatomical as well as artistic challenge. In doing so, she is not concerned with idealizing the female body in the sense of an image conveyed by advertising, fashion, and projection.

Gautier's women are also beauties in the art-aesthetic sense. Precisely because the artist deals freely with anatomical details (by under- or exaggerating them, for example), she creates thoroughly composed objects that are not merely "likenesses," but at the same time face up to sculptural demands for tension, balance, and harmonious form.
