It is notably women that dominate my figurative sculptures. Most of them are very feminine women in exceedingly womanly forms, in sensuous corpulence, or equally curvaceous goddesses of the ancient world. I model them out of the soft and easily workable medium of clay. Frequently, I also have them cast in bronze. But slim women are also included in my oeuvre. Here the woman is to be seen as a sensitive and fragile figure, often as a torso. Her impressionistically roughened surface reveals countless cracks and scars, which evoke a very painful physical experience. Being an artist means: encountering the Creator powerfully with your own attempts at creation. (Ponten)
