    Product description

The edge stools are life-size and therefore confront the viewer as strict observers of human scale almost at eye level. Incidentally, this seated version of the Guardian made its most spectacular appearance on the occasion of the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall: to mark the occasion, the sculptures "occupied" the remaining section of the Berlin Wall in Friedrichshain, which was designed by various contemporary artists and is internationally known as the "East Side Gallery". Their warning to the cheering and celebrating visitors: the Wall may have disappeared everywhere else: your responsibility for the past and the future has not.

Edition in bronze, cast in lost wax, chiseled by hand and patinated.

    Manfred Kielnhofer (1967)

The painter, sculptor, designer and photographer has been pursuing the concept of his mythical guardian figures since 2006, and has caused a furor with them. For in the beginning they were indeed simply there suddenly and unannounced - for example at the Venice Biennale in 2011 and Documenta XIII in 2012 - and were not only admired by visitors, but also accepted for some time by the curators. Kielnhofer's "Guardians" have long since found their way into countless exhibitions and galleries and are represented in renowned international collections. But they are still on the move. On the Internet, the artist documents their appearance all over the world. In 2015, by the way, they could be found quite officially during the Venice Biennale - in Palazzo Mora as part of one of the "eventi collaterali".
